Design tools for Instagram posts, stories and highlights

A consistent look makes a profile easier to recognize, and it does not need a designer or a paid app. The five tools on this page help you lay out several photos in one picture, start a post or story from a ready template, and give your highlights matching covers. They run in your browser, and the photos you add are not uploaded.

Each tool exports a file in the size Instagram expects, so you can post the result straight away.

Three decisions before you start

The shape. Feed posts work best in portrait, stories and Reels are always vertical, and highlight covers end up as small circles. Choose the shape first, because moving a design from square to vertical later means rearranging everything.

The message. One post, one idea. If you need more than a headline and a short line of text, make a carousel with one idea per slide.

The style. Decide on colors and fonts once and reuse them, so your posts look like they belong together.

Keeping a consistent look

Pick two or three colors and one or two fonts, and use them in every template, cover and collage background. Keep the same corner style and spacing in collages. Use the same filter family on your photos, with the photo filters at a similar strength. After a few weeks your grid will look planned even if every post was made on the day.

Check sizes before you design: Instagram now accepts feed photos as tall as 3:4 (Instagram Help Center (opens in a new tab), checked November 2026), and stories use 9:16. The image size guide has the details with sources.

From idea to post in a few minutes

  1. Decide what the post should do: inform, sell, celebrate or ask a question.
  2. Pick a template or collage layout that fits that job and the shape you need.
  3. Replace the sample text with your own, as short as you can make it.
  4. Swap in your photos and adjust the crop inside each cell or frame.
  5. Export, then post from your phone with a caption and a few precise hashtags.

Design tool questions

Can I use the templates for my business?

Yes. Designs you make with the templates are yours to post, including for commercial accounts.

Do I need to sign up to save designs?

No. You download the finished image; nothing is stored on our side.

Can I make a carousel?

Export several template designs in the same size and post them together. Instagram allows up to 20 photos and videos in one carousel (Instagram Help Center (opens in a new tab), checked November 2026).
